What Studies Are Showing About Papaya Seeds

Hey Everyone!

As many of you know, we carry Papaya Seed Powder as a simple, food-based way to help support the body’s natural balance when it comes to unwanted intestinal guests.

What makes it unique is its simplicity — just one ingredient: pure papaya seeds.

No blends. No fillers. Just a traditionally used whole food known for its gentle yet effective cleansing properties.

In a controlled school-based clinical study here in rural Kenya, children receiving porridge fortified with papaya seed powder experienced a 63.9% reduction in Ascaris egg counts over 8 weeks.

While the pharmaceutical drug albendazole achieved a higher complete parasite clearance rate, the papaya seed group demonstrated meaningful parasite reduction alongside measurable improvements in weight gain, arm circumference (a key malnutrition marker), and reductions in skin fungal overgrowth — benefits not reported to the same extent in the albendazole group — highlighting a broader whole-food effect.

These findings suggest that beyond lowering parasite burden alone, papaya seeds may support nutritional status both by easing parasitic stress and by contributing naturally occurring plant compounds that help children better absorb and utilize the food they consume.

The superior nutritional outcomes seen with papaya seeds are likely tied to their synergistic bioactive compounds. As supported by multiple preclinical studies [ fE0> 1, c0>
2, l0>
3], papaya seeds contain natural compounds that work together to weaken and expel parasites — while also supporting the body’s recovery.

According to these studies, enzymes like papain help break down the protective coating of worms and their eggs, making them easier to digest and eliminate and potentially inhibiting hatching. Carpaine, an alkaloid, may disrupt parasite neuromuscular activity (essentially paralyzing them) and metabolism, allowing the body to clear them more efficiently.

Other natural compounds — such as benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), tannins, oleic acid, and various polyphenols — have been shown to impair parasite mobility, damage their outer structure, and interfere with energy production. In addition, these studies above report parasite reductions of up to 54%, along with measurable improvements in the host’s antioxidant defenses, suggesting these compounds may both weaken parasites and help protect tissues from oxidative stress during immune challenges. For example, one study observed enhanced antioxidant protection during parasite exposure, including potential support of cardiac tissue in the early stages of a parasite-related condition kV0> [1].

Importantly, the nutritional improvements observed in children may not be explained by parasite reduction alone. While pharmaceutical agents like albendazole focus primarily on eliminating worms, papaya seeds also provide naturally occurring fatty acids, plant compounds, and antimicrobial activity that may support gut integrity and reduce fungal burden. This broader biological support may help explain the improvements in weight gain and arm circumference seen in the papaya group.

So while papaya seeds are gently helping reduce parasitic stress, they may also be contributing to the body’s ability to rebuild — nutritionally and immunologically.

In vitro, Papaya Seed Extract showed near-complete inhibition of egg hatching and larval motility, with efficacy comparable to ivermectin at specific concentrations t38YA2> [2]. Furthermore, oral administration of air-dried papaya seeds demonstrated potential antifilarial effects (targeting parasitic worms) in naturally infected dogs, with no adverse outcomes x0> [3].

And then there’s that remarkable study on Nigerian children showing incredible parasite clearance.

In the clinical study here, researchers administered air-dried papaya seeds to Nigerian children and observed significantly higher stool clearance rates compared to placebo. “The stool clearance rate for the various types of parasites encountered was between 71.4% and 100% following dried papaya seed treatment, compared with just 0–15.4% with the placebo. There were no harmful effects.”

The researchers concluded that dried papaya seeds were effective, affordable, and safe for intestinal parasites — especially valuable in tropical regions.

They used dried papaya seeds — just like what we offer in our powder and capsules — and saw clearance rates as high as 100%, compared to only 0–15.4% in the placebo group.

Even more notable: the treatment was reported to be well tolerated with no harmful effects observed.

Papaya seeds have been used traditionally by cultures around the world as a natural support when digestive imbalances arise. If something feels “off” in the belly, many traditional practices turn to papaya seeds as a simple, food-based remedy. The seeds are often eaten straight from the fruit — a time-tested approach passed down through generations.

Here is the protocol for using our Papaya Seed Powder, available in both powder and capsule form:

For best results, take Papaya Seed Powder first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. You can take 2 to 6 capsules at a time, or ½ to 1½ teaspoons of powder if you prefer the loose form (two capsules equal approximately ½ teaspoon).

Taking it on an empty stomach helps maximize its effectiveness. This can serve as your basic daily protocol. For optimal results, continue consistently for 8 weeks, as studies have shown meaningful parasite reduction and nutritional improvements over this timeframe.

If using the powder, you may mix it with a small amount of water or honey to make it easier to take.

Thanks everyone for your support!

Sincerely,
Matt
