Superfoods for Hair Loss: Natural Support for Fuller, Healthier Hair

Hey everyone! There are two potential causes of hair loss: nutritional deficiencies and hormonal issues. Over the years, countless people have come to me about thinning hair – it’s a huge issue in the health community, and among vegans too. Below I cover the hormonal side first with Saw Palmetto, then the nutrients that go into growing healthy hair.

1. Saw Palmetto

Saw Palmetto is my number one product for the hormonal side of hair loss, for men and women. DHT is an extremely powerful form of testosterone that has been shown to cause hair loss and the shrinking of hair follicles. An enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase converts testosterone into DHT, and our Saw Palmetto is a very powerful 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which helps reduce DHT and support your hair hormonally.

In one clinical study, just 200 mg of saw palmetto reduced hair loss in 60% of men compared with placebo. You can also use it topically: in another study, nearly half of 25 participants increased their hair count by 11.9% after four months of topical use. A review of 7 studies found that oral and topical saw palmetto improved hair quality by 60%, raised total hair count by 27% and increased hair density in 83% of people.

Each gel cap is 320 mg of CO2-extracted saw palmetto, with a little pumpkin seed oil – rich in zinc and phytosterols – to enhance absorption. Take it internally, and if you like, open a cap and use it on your scalp too.

2. Unfortified Nutritional Yeast

Now for the nutritional side. Many components go together in creating healthy hair, and if you’re missing even one, the whole process suffers. Our Unfortified Nutritional Yeast is loaded with all of the B vitamins – naturally occurring, never synthetic – listed at anywhere between 90% and 700% of the daily value, plus about 40% iron, 45% magnesium, 30% zinc, 40% selenium and 130% copper per serving. It’s also a complete protein. Its only gap is B12, which is where the next superfood comes in.

3. B12 Probiotics

B12 Probiotics cover your B12, which our unfortified nutritional yeast doesn’t have naturally. It’s a single-ingredient probiotic that produces active B12 – half a teaspoon gives you all the B12 you need in a day.

4. Ionic Angstrom Zinc & Silica

Zinc is a necessity for hair growth, and Eidon’s Ionic Angstrom Zinc is the most bioavailable zinc I know of. Silica is the other key mineral – Eidon gives you 375 mg of ionic silica per serving, about 16 times more than Orgono. Both are in a charged, angstrom-sized form your body can use right away.

5. Orgono Living Silica

Silica plays a key role in forming keratin, the main protein in hair and nails, and many customers have written in about fuller, faster, stronger hair growth with Orgono. In one study, 48 women with fine hair took 10 mg of silica daily for 9 months and had stronger hair strands that were less prone to breaking. A 12-week study on MMST – Orgono’s form – showed less hair breakage and less brittle nails.

6. Quintessential 3.3

Trace minerals are another piece of the puzzle, and Quintessential 3.3 is my favorite mineral supplement – I’ve taken it for over two decades without missing a heartbeat. It provides the full spectrum of ocean minerals and trace elements.

7. Camu Camu Powder

Vitamin C rounds out the nutrients for hair. Camu Camu is the top whole-food vitamin C source I know of – about 60 times more vitamin C than an orange – and just 1/4 teaspoon covers your daily needs.

8. The Hair Loss Kit

One of my fortes is figuring out nutrient combinations that work really well together, and our Hair Loss Kit is the result. It handles both sides head on – Saw Palmetto for the hormonal side and the most bioavailable nutrients I know for the nutritional side – in the forms covered above.
